Lead Mechanical Engineer

Are you a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with a passion for leading projects and developing engineering talent? Our client, an established and growing engineering business, is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their high-performing team.

Operating across multiple highly regulated market sectors, this company delivers complete turnkey solutions — from concept and design through to manufacture and delivery. With a strong reputation for technical excellence, they are entering a new phase of growth and investment.

This is a newly created role due to business expansion. You’ll have real autonomy to lead technically challenging projects, drive innovation, and play a key role in shaping the future of the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities of a Lead Mechanical Engineer:

Lead the design and delivery of mechanical solutions across a variety of high-specification projects
Take technical ownership from concept through to completion, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and client specifications
Utilise your expertise in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) and engineering analysis (FEA, CFD or similar) to support innovative, robust design
Manage and deliver complex engineering projects on time and within budget
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless project executionRequirements of a Lead Mechanical Engineer:

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) – ideally chartered but not essential  
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Senior mechanical engineering and/or leadership role
Strong background in delivering engineered solutions to regulated industries (e.g. aerospace, defence, medical, nuclear)
Proficient in 3D CAD and analytical tools, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving
Proven ability to manage teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive project delivery
