Technical Project Manager

A growing engineering and defence technology organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex hardware and software engineering projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded Project Manager with experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering programmes within defence, aerospace, maritime, or other highly regulated industries.

The successful candidate will oversee projects from initial concept through to delivery, ensuring programmes are completed on time, within budget, and to the required technical and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage engineering projects involving hardware, software, firmware, and systems development
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and external suppliers
  • Define project scope, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements
  • Monitor project performance, risks, costs, and delivery milestones
  • Produce project reports and communicate progress to internal stakeholders and customers
  • Support bid activities, planning, and cost estimation
  • Manage project change control and risk mitigation activities
  • Ensure projects follow structured development and NPI processes
  • Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships throughout delivery

Requirements
  • Previous experience managing technical engineering projects
  • Background as a mechanical, electrical, systems, electronics or software engineer
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software development lifecycles
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, risks, and project resources
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools

Desirable Experience
  • Experience delivering projects within defence or military environments
  • Understanding of surveillance, sensing, communications, or electro-optic technologies
  • PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent project management certification
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and gated development processes
