Are you a qualified accountant with experience in construction, engineering or another project-led environment?
We are recruiting a Finance Manager for a rapidly growing group operating across the specialist construction and engineering space.
Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will take responsibility for management reporting, financial controls, taxation compliance, CIS, payroll oversight and commercial support across the group.
This is a broad, hands-on position offering the opportunity to work closely with senior management and operational teams while helping to strengthen the finance function as the business continues to grow.
The RoleYour responsibilities will include:
- Preparing monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
- Producing financial analysis and commentary for senior management.
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
- Assisting with year-end accounts and the external audit process.
- Managing VAT returns and wider HMRC compliance.
- Taking ownership of CIS administration, including subcontractor verification, deductions, monthly returns and reconciliations.
- Supporting Corporation Tax, PAYE, National Insurance and P11D processes.
- Overseeing payroll preparation, controls and reconciliations.
- Strengthening financial controls, processes and reporting.
- Supporting contract accounting, project costing and commercial analysis.
- Working with project managers and operational teams to monitor costs, margins and profitability.
- Contributing to systems improvements and wider business-growth initiatives.
The CandidateYou will ideally have:
- A full ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
- Strong management accounts and financial reporting experience.
- Experience within construction, civil engineering, rail, infrastructure or another contract-led business.
- Practical experience administering the Construction Industry Scheme.
- Knowledge of VAT, including domestic reverse-charge VAT.
- Experience with project accounting, job costing or contract-cost reporting.
- Strong balance sheet reconciliation and financial-control experience.
- Exposure to payroll processes and statutory compliance.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience using Sage, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics or a similar finance system.
- The confidence to communicate financial information to operational and non-finance stakeholders.
Experience of work in progress, accrued income, retentions, applications for payment or long-term contracts would be particularly advantageous.
