Design Engineer
An established engineering and manufacturing business based in Portsmouth is looking for a Design Engineer to join its expanding technical team. With a strong reputation in the aerospace and defence sectors, the company delivers advanced engineering solutions and is committed to developing its employees’ skills and careers.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Design Engineer to work on projects from initial concept through to production, contributing to the development of high-quality, safety-critical products. You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring designs are robust, cost-effective and compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop design concepts and create detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Produce technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and client reviews.
  • Support testing activities, including defining and witnessing qualification tests.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project teams, and management to ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals, ensuring design work is delivered on time and within budget.
    What You’ll Need:
  • Strong skills in 2D and 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks essential).
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and material properties, including fatigue and load considerations.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Confident in producing technical reports and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Experience with aerospace, defence, or other safety-critical industries is preferred; knowledge of airworthiness or electrical systems is a bonus.
    Qualifications & Experience:
  • HND, Degree, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience gained in safety-critical sectors such as aerospace, defence, transport, marine, or medical devices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    What’s on Offer:
  • A salary of £40,000-£45,000, depending on experience.
