The Warehouse Operative - Sawyer will ensure complete accuracy in all aspects of their role taking responsibility for producing cut blocks, billets, planed pieces as dictated by the cutting order and produce pieces to the sizes and specifications given. To look after the general upkeep of the cutting & planning machines and to inform the Shift Supervisor and/or the Warehouse Manager of any faults or repairs that need attention. Health and Safety of warehouse employees is of utmost importance and therefore strict policies and procedures must be adhered to at all times. This is a very busy department, accuracy and attention-to-detail is imperative to the success of the Warehouse Operative – Sawyer to complete cutting orders to the standards set and to meet the delivery targets.
The Sawyer/Warehouse Assistant will report directly to the Shift Supervisor. Additionally you will regularly liaise with the Quality and Improvements Manager regarding any issues.
Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
•To complete cutting orders using methods laid down in the quality manual, i.e. first off, tolerances and batch verification. When material is returned to stock, the size and batch number must be written on material and off-cut spray to be used when applicable.
•As a Sawyer you will be trained on the proper usage of a variety of saws, such as circular saws, bandsaws, panel saws, and handsaws; it is your responsibility to follow all training guidance for the use of the tools and to act in a safe and responsible manner.
•Accurately read measuring equipment such as verniers and micrometers with the ability to work to tight tolerances.
•Accurately read and communicate cutting orders, eliminating any potential waste of material though attention to detail.
•Work as a team with other members of the department, including the occasional need to complete Warehouse Assistant duties, such as picking, packing and assisting team members with heavy lifting. Regularly liaise with the team members within the Despatch office.
•Periodic maintenance and troubleshooting will be necessary for the department’s equipment, and due to the manual nature of the role there will be a physical element to the role including climbing, pushing, kneeling, and lifting heavy items.
•Understanding batch numbers to identify the correct materials required for the role.
•Notify the Shift Supervisor and/or the Warehouse Manager of any machine defects, hazards or dangers immediately on discovery.
•Be aware of own and other’s safety at all times and to keep all machinery in a clean and safe way at all times.
•Comply with all health and safety procedures and regulations as laid down by the company including cleanliness and housekeeping.
