The Client

My client is a company that specialises in complete drainage services to corporate clients managing domestic and small commercial drainage failures. The company provides a quick and competitively priced response to their clients needs whether it be a simple blockage, a drain collapse or a burst water pipe. Due to recent expansion, they currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical manager within their specialist pump division.


The Role

As a Wastewater Pump Technical Manager within this division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the technical aspects of wastewater pump systems training within a 50 strong franchise network. This position combines technical expertise with leadership, project management, commercial development aligned with customer / franchise support. This role would suit someone from a pump engineering background, who is looking for a step up into an operational management role or someone who is already in a similar position and is looking for an opportunity for development and progression as well as showcasing skillsets and experience.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

Work with the commercial team to oversee the selection, design, and specification of wastewater pump systems.

Provide technical guidance to engineers, technicians, and field service teams.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.


Project Management

Manage installation, commissioning, and maintenance projects for wastewater pumps for franchises where required and directed.

Develop and oversee schedules, budgets, and resource allocation on projects.

Collaborate with estimating division, contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure project success.


Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Diagnose and resolve complex pump failures and performance issues.

Implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.

Lead root cause analysis and recommend system improvements.


Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

Provide technical support and training to customers, franchises and internal teams.

Conduct site visits, inspections, and system assessments.

Collaborate with sales teams to develop tailored pump solutions.


Compliance & Documentation

Ensure compliance with environmental and health & safety regulations.

Maintain technical documentation, reports, and service records.

Support research and development of new pumping technologies.


Experience Required

Expertise in wastewater pump systems, sewage treatment plants, hydraulics, and fluid dynamics.

Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

Leadership and project management abilities.

Familiarity with relevant regulations (e.g., UK Water Industry Standards, BS EN 752, EA requirements).

Proficiency in pump selection and telemetry systems.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Ability to train at all levels including mentoring of technical staff.

Diligent reporting

Education: Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years in wastewater pumping, maintenance, or engineering roles.

CSCS, Confined Space Training, IOSH/NEBOSH (preferred), 18th Edition, train the trainer (preferred), CDM.

Full UK driving license.
