This Principal Systems Engineering vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation.


You will be engaged in a wide variety of Systems Engineering activities covering the entire engineering lifecycle, including; systems definition, input to estimates and bid activities, requirements apportionment, systems architecting, integration, verification & validation, which will involve proactive interaction and communication with other Engineering and non-Engineering functions.


Candidates with an excellent understanding of all aspects of Systems Engineering relating to lifecycle processes and methodologies should apply. Specific experience in HF Communications is particularly sought after for this role; Requirements definition, system design and system testing of HF radio communications systems using Automatic Link Establishment is highly desirable for this role. Experience in IP networks is also desirable. As a Principal Systems Engineer you will contribute heavily to product design reviews and interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.


Project work at Leonardo is based on both internally funded products and directly funded work with deliverables to key customers within short timescales. If successful, you will be joining a dedicated multi-disciplined Integrated Project Team with a full and stretching workload - with huge potential for personal growth and professional development.

What you will do

Adherence to Leonardo's Engineering governance e.g. policy, framework processes, design reviews

Support to new and existing product line operations as required

Maintaining an organised record of project related decisions, risks, actions & opportunities for audit purposes or general good practice

The preparation of system and sub-system technical requirements and their dissemination to appropriate engineering functions

Concept generation at sub-system level.

Systems architecture of solutions

Generation of test plans and specifications

Support to module and system-level integration, execution of testing and analysis of test recordings and results.

Technical mentoring of more junior systems engineer(s) covering increasing their level of familiarity with existing designs and ways of working, plus acting as a sounding board and source of technical advice for challenges the junior personnel encounter.

What we are looking for


Essential

Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline

Systems practitioner across the whole lifecycle

Excellent numerical problem solving skills & an aptitude for lateral thinking

Strong understanding of HF Communications

Awareness of Functional analysis and Specification development

The ability to work with, and define work for, other Engineering disciplines and external suppliers/customers

Working knowledge of DOORS requirements management system


Desirable

Previous experience working with military communications systems

Knowledge of military and international specifications and standards including STANAG 4538, STANAG 5066 and Mil-Std-188-110D

Configuration control using Clearcase, Teamcenter and the Atlassian toolset

Experience working on Bids & Proposals

Experience of MATLAB/Simulink
