About the job


Tembo is on the lookout for a passionate Lead App Engineer to join the savings team. We’re currently in the midst of a platform revolution as we re-architect towards a more resilient, robust future to support our explosive growth. This role offers the opportunity to help shape that direction and cut your teeth into some exciting and pivotal problems.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Feature Ownership and Leadership:Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of innovative, user-focused features that drive the app’s functionality and customer satisfaction.
  • Technical leadership:Provide technical leadership to a team of app developers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Architecture and Scalability:Define and implement app architecture, ensuring it supports scalability, maintainability, and performance to meet the needs of a growing user base.
  • Service Integration and Optimization:Oversee seamless integration with third-party APIs, financial systems, and backend services, ensuring smooth data flow and operational efficiency. Optimize app performance, focusing on responsiveness and reliability.
  • Bug Resolution and Reliability Assurance:Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs, maintaining a high standard of reliability and ensuring a superior user experience.
  • Code Reviews and Standards Enforcement:Conduct and oversee thorough code reviews, ensuring the team adheres to high-quality coding standards. Establish best practices for code documentation, testing, and deployment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Act as the primary liaison between the app development team and other departments, including product management, UX/UI design, and backend engineering, to align on timelines, goals, and feature priorities.
  • Technical Investigations and Innovation:Conduct research into emerging tools, frameworks, and technologies to ensure the app remains cutting-edge and competitive in the fintech space. Evaluate and recommend strategies to enhance the app's capabilities.
  • Security and Compliance Leadership:Ensure that the app adheres to industry security standards and regulatory compliance requirements, particularly those specific to the fintech industry.
  • Open Standards Advocacy:Champion the adoption and implementation of open standards such as OpenTelemetry and OpenAPI, fostering interoperability and transparency across services.
  • Roadmap Contribution:Collaborate with leadership to define the app development roadmap, ensuring technical feasibility aligns with business objectives and customer needs.


About you

  • A demonstrable experience as a React Native app developer
  • Fanatical about customer experience
  • Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively in remote, cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: We punch above our weight, move quickly and ship often. If you thrive in a startup and want to help get us to scale-up
