Overview

We are seeking a Senior & Principal Systems Engineers with extensive years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in the defence industry and expertise in systems engineering, verification, project management, and Documentation. We are looking for Engineers who promote a mindset of attention to detail, communication, and teamwork within the team. Candidates with a good understanding of all aspects of Systems Engineering relating to lifecycle processes and methodologies should apply.

Responsibilities

Requirements Analysis & Management
Review and interpret User Requirements Documents (URDs)
Derive and document system/sub-system requirements
Establish and control requirement baselines
Perform impact assessments on change requests
Manage requirements through IBM DOORS (or equivalent)
Solution Development

Develop technical solutions for hardware, software, and systems-of-systems
Decompose requirements into design building blocks at system and subsystem level
Identify, propose and secure buy-off for system solutions
Support configuration definition and management activities
Artefact Generation
Produce high-quality technical documentation in line with project governance
Contribute to formal reviews and audits of artefacts and baselines
Lead or support generation of interface control documents, architecture diagrams, and verification plans
You are expected to be able to work in all areas of top the V model where you will be able to support concept translating systems to customer requirements, through to in-service support. You will be expected to provide systems engineering support to customer design and engineering management teams.
Full requirements management (creation, update, validation, verification), including suppliers' integration and DOORS experience,
Documentation: Produce detailed technical documentation, supporting the development of engineering requirements and associated documentation.
Reviewing, documentation - Subsystems, customer, work packages.
Verification, Validation, proving and Certification
Systems Integration
Model based engineering techniques, including the use of Rhapsody

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Applicable and suitable experience can be substituted for qualifications.

Experience

Extensive experience in Systems Engineering roles.
Proven experience in systems engineering, preferably within the defence or aerospace industry
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and propose innovative solutions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Experience with project management practices and tools, including schedule management, risk analysis, and resource allocation
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, such as MIL-STD, DO-178C, and DO-254, is desirable
Eligibility for security clearance (dependent on project requirements)
Systems Thinking: Understanding of context and complexity; systems of systems awareness
Systems Design: Concept Generation, architecture definition, design assurance & Integrity
Systems Safety: Identification and Mitigation of hazards; safety considerations
IVVQ: Requirements verification and Validation planning and execution
Interface Management: Understanding and Documenting systems relationships and Interfaces
Requirements Management: Requirements Derivation, Allocation and Traceability (Using DOORS)
Lifecycle Knowledge: Full coverage of the V lifecycle, from concept through to validation and support

What do I need before I apply

Engineers must meet the following criteria:
Security Cleared (SC, sole UK national, BPSS)
Onsite Availability: Minimum 3 days per week at Cheadle
Requirements Derivation Experience: Proven capability deriving and allocating URD requirements to sub-systems
Domain Knowledge: Submarine or wider Maritime Defence experience preferred; SONAR experience is a distinct advantage
Lifecycle Familiarity: Demonstrated experience across the full V-model development lifecycle
DOORS Proficiency: Working knowledge of DOORS or equivalent tools for requirements management
Leadership Ability: Self-starting and capable of leading small engineering teams when required
