PURPOSE

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design of client projects. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design, develop, and test mechanical systems for client projects. You will create detailed technical drawings, perform engineering calculations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation and optimization. Additionally, you will troubleshoot and resolve design issues, contributing to continuous product improvement and efficiency

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and develop bespoke robotic and automation systems using advanced 3D CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks), creating technical drawings with attention to functionality, and manufacturability.

Produce design specifications, process flow diagrams, fabrication and assembly drawings, and compliance records.

Specify components and assemblies based on performance criteria, regulatory standards, and integration with electrical and control systems.

Conduct technical evaluations FEA, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to validate mechanical performance and safety.

Ensure design compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g. CE/UKCA marking, ISO 12100, ISO 13849), generating supporting calculations and participating in risk assessments and RAMS.

Coordinate with suppliers, fabricators, and internal stakeholders to align mechanical design with manufacturing capabilities, timelines, and cost targets.

Support build and integration activities both in-house and on client sites as required.

Contribute to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and product commissioning by providing mechanical expertise and resolving integration issues.

Maintain and update technical documentation throughout the project, including O&M manuals, test records, and engineering change notes.

Monitor and manage mechanical design deliverables against project plans, ensuring milestones are achieved and engineering quality is upheld.

Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, software, project management) to deliver high-quality robotic systems on time and to specification.

EDUCATION

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc)/ Mechatronics / Aerospace Engineering or similar engineering disciplines or equivalent time served experience.

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in a similar role.

Strong understanding of machinery systems.

Experience of developing concepts and designing complex electro mechanical machinery including robotics.

Experience using SOLIDWORKS Mechanical (Essential) [3D Modelling, Drawings & Analysis], SOLIDWORKS PDM (Desirable), KUKA SIM (Desirable)

Experience of Producing manufacturing and assembly drawings inline with relevant drawings standards e.g. BS 8888

Familiarity with Pneumatic circuit diagrams and componentary

Knowledge of all pertinent standards for compliance with the Machinery Directive and CE Marking.
