    Purpose of role and key accountabilities:

    Reporting to the Shift Manager, the function of the role is to supervise and manage production operations at the Gardner Aerospace site in meeting and exceeding its customer requirements on Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People

    Safety:

    • Work to and promote company policies, procedures and Health, Safety & Environmental standards including IS(phone number removed), 50001 and 18001, to promote a strong HS&E culture and provide a healthy and secure working environment for all

    • Work in conjunction with the wider site team to reduce the number of accidents, near misses and environmental hazards utilising 6S principles managing HS&E proactively and effectively

    • Support legislative site audits and site action plans to drive improved safety standards and continuous improvement performance throughout the business

      Quality:

    • To lead and make decisions regarding any quality and engineering queries for the shift. Training will be provided where required.

    • To develop a culture of continuous improvement in the workplace, ensuring that quality standards and procedures are observed and always maintained.

    • Ensure effective feedback, 2-way communication to the shop floor for internal and external quality concerns, the efficient management of issues through SQCDP meetings and the timely resolution of issues through the deployment of robust problem-solving methodologies

    • Quality performance working towards zero defect target by proactive quality measures and root cause analysis

      Cost:

    • Ensure that the site achieves agreed financial, operational and commercial objectives via the implementation of continuous improvements in cost reduction activities across the company, to deliver increased profitability and value for money to our customers and stakeholders

    • Drive improvement in delivery performance through continuous improvement (Kaizen) measures, to exceed customer expectations and targets.

      Delivery:

    • Drive improvement in delivery performance through continuous improvement measures, to exceed customer expectations and targets (D1)

    • Generate visual operational KPI’s in line with company objectives which enable operational performance to be effectively tracked on a regular basis

    • To lead the shift in working to 99% scheduled attainment(D1)

    • Production performance optimising output by efficiency improvement activities and staff performance management

      People:

    • Enhance organisational capability and personal development through the training and upskilling of employees, including supporting the sites recruitment and training strategy and training matrix

    • Management of staff and personal issues including disciplines, grievances, sickness absence, appraisals and maintenance of holiday systems

    • To create a climate where workplace relationships are favourable, through appropriate leadership style and effective communication. Influence cultural change and embrace diversity, inclusion, well-being and community

    • To set clear direction and ensure that the appropriate standards of behaviour and conduct are maintained within the business, in accordance with company policies

  • Communication skills across all levels, ability to communicate effectively with internal, and external function, including suppliers.

  • Able to deal with high pressured situations including immediate reaction to Customer requirements, short notice overtime / shift changes and manpower planning.

    Specific Attributes:

  • Extensive knowledge of production processes, preferably within the aerospace or automotive industry

  • Positive flexible attitude, able to form and maintain good relationships at all business levels

  • First class leadership and motivational skills, people development.

  • Commitment to continual improvement in manufacturing, quality, health, safety and environmental management

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and other modern manufacturing methods.

  • Educated or willing to work towards a level 3/5 management qualification or equivalent

  • Ability to use Microsoft office, excel, word, power point, email and other business tools

  • Able to lead and control projects, and tasks from planning to finish with presentation and analytical skills to completion
