About your team: 

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

An opportunity to play your part -The Procurement Category Specialist is a pivotal role within Procurement ensuring that value, compliance, and efficiency for procuring goods and services is delivered to the Centrica business. The role reports directly into the Sourcing Manager and will work closely with other members of the team. The role will involve interactions with internal stakeholders and external third parties and enables Procurement to be perceived as an integrated, positive, significant and value adding partner by enabling stakeholders to procure efficiently (value, quality and speed) whilst balancing risk and reward.

Location: Hybrid working with occasional travel to office

The day to day:

Source and procure goods and services across expenditure categories, ensuring value for money within service and quality criteria.

Ensure demand aligns with business needs.

Manage individual workflow, including daily closing of activities and end-to-end cycle time.

Identify and manage or escalate blockages.

Lead spend management initiatives, directing sourcing requests to applicable buying channels (P Card, Smart Buy spot buy).

Understand risks, cultures, and risk deployments in different markets and industries.

Deliver Fast Buy service in line with SLAs and KPIs.

Understand playbook structure and content.

Partner with legal, regulatory, ethics, and compliance to align Global Centrica initiatives within Procurement sourcing processes.

Support drafting, negotiating, and obtaining agreement to commercial contracts, minimizing operational and commercial risks using standard terms and templates.

Focus on cost-saving targets and total acquisition costs, working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Ensure higher value outcomes by evaluating all options.

Identify and implement e-sourcing techniques and e-technologies to increase commercial value and process efficiency.

Identify and escalate operational and regulatory risks.

About You

Participate in the delivery of the Group Sourcing and Contracting performance contract.

Experience in a procurement role within a global, complex matrix organisation.

Effective use of the collaborative value management tool.

Programmatic delivery using six sigma, lean, and scrum methodologies.

Strong engagement and influencing skills across functions and with stakeholders.

Ability to challenge internal stakeholders with strong market knowledge and latest trends.

Understand future risks and impacts on Centrica, taking appropriate mitigating actions.

Commercial know-how: managing for value, market expertise, understanding Centrica and our customers.

Understand procurement needs and workflows (RFx, contracting, etc.)

Knowledge of specific sub-categories, e-auctions, and procurement buying channels

Degree educated or relevant work experience.

Experience influencing stakeholders, networking, and managing conflict.

Self-directed, proactive, flexible, resilient, motivated, and results-oriented
