POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an excellent opportunity to pursue a career in engineering New Product Development within a successful and growing business. The position is office based at our purpose-built site in Rawtenstall. The role holder will be expected to work on multiple fast paced projects encompassing a variety of product families & materials. This role reports into a Senior Design Engineer who provides project oversite and support to a group of design engineers.

The successful candidate will ideally be degree educated with a background in a mechanical engineering product design. This opportunity provides a wide range of product design and development exposure and would suit an engineer looking to progress their career into a NPD environment.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Good mechanical engineering aptitude with the ability to visualise and develop robust manufacturable design solutions.

Ability to use CAD and analysis tools to draw, model and analyse component properties to ensure optimum design solutions are developed before committing to expensive and time-consuming physical trials.

Comfortable working and participating in a varied environment which includes all aspects of product design and development including validation, type approval and production support (seeing the products through from cradle to grave).

Familiar with the requirements of working in a structured APQP new product development gate process.

Providing design and technical engineering support for legacy products.

Offsite travel including overseas maybe required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Recent experience working in a design environment directly associated with a manufacturing facility.

Widespread knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes & rapid prototyping.

Good working knowledge of 3D CAD software; preferably AutoCAD / Inventor.

Experience of using and maintaining engineering ERP data; preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central.

A “practical hands-on” mentality who has experience in supporting the prototype, validation and production ramp up activities associated with the new product development process.

Experience of working with cross functional project teams.

Ability to work independently to agreed deadlines.

Ability to interact and share knowledge with people at all levels of responsibility.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideally Bachelor degree or equivalent level in mechanical engineering.

Experience leading small design projects in a fast-paced industrial engineering type environment.

Working knowledge of FEA analysis.

Exposure to AQPQ tools. For example, generating and participating in DFMEA’s & PFMEA’s.

Experience in power utilities sector; overhead power line equipment, cable pulling equipment.

Competent in the use of GD&T/GPS.

Working knowledge of applicable standards e.g. BS, ISO, ASTM.

Full UK driving license
