Job Title: Bid Manager

Salary: up to £42,000 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Portsmouth

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Bid Manager. The role will be based in Portsmouth but offers the opportunity for hybrid working (2- 3 days per week on site) and flexible working hours. Individual circumstances can be discussed.

They work at the cutting edge of technology, creating more than 100 new inventions every year for customers in over 100 countries.

You will join the Maritime and Land BD Operations team which provides business winning support across the Maritime and Land sector to a variety of campaigns and bids.

The BD Operations team has a number of bid management, proposal management and proposal coordination roles that this role will sit alongside as part of the wider team. You will support bids across the sector, providing you the opportunity to support long-term strategic campaigns and shorter turn around bids.

The company’s working approach will enable you to have flexibility with your working hours, depending on your role and location. This could include accruing hours as well as flexibility around start and finish times, ensuring you can balance life at work, on site and life at home.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Leading all aspects of the planning and execution of the overall bid cycle/governance plan (for assigned bids)

  • Managing the bid development in a timely and efficient manner, schedules and oversees key reviews

  • Defining, tailoring and implementing a suitable Bid process to fit the Opportunity

  • Generating and gaining approval for implementing a realistic Bid Plan and Bid Schedule (including resources, budgets, responsibilities and task allocation)

  • Managing the business approval process at all required delegated authority levels, supports any security and export approvals

  • Leading the multi-disciplined Bid team and ensures the entire team is kept appraised of developments in requirements and bid status, on a day to day basis

  • Interacting with bid stakeholders at all appropriate levels across multiple organisations and keeps the Business Leadership Team informed and engaged, including timely escalation of issues needing resolution

  • Coordinating the Costing and Pricing activity, including acting as an independent challenger to keep the team focused on meeting the Price to Win

    About You:

  • Qualified to Degree standard or equivalent

  • Has practical and relevant work experience

  • Proven bid management and project management skills, ideally within a complex procurement environment

  • Proven experience of supporting RFIs, ITT/ITN/RFP/RFQ or Framework bids in a competitive environment

    You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
