We have an open vacancy for this role, based at the site of one of Quest's major blue-chip clients in Derby, but all functions, responsibility for employment and operational reporting lines will remain with Quest Global

Job Summary
Quest Global Design and Development Engineers are responsible for the design, specification and control of engine build, instrumentation and test requirements for gas turbine projects in Derby and worldwide.
Example duties of the Design and Development Engineer:
Assessment of technology product requirements, including costs, manufacturing feasibility and market requirements
Preparation of concept and detail designs for aero gas turbine engine components and systems
Creation and specification of engine test experiments and instrumentation schemes
Creation and modification of software to be incorporated in gas turbine control systems or software for monitoring and diagnosis of aero gas turbines in service with OEM’s customers
Arranging the construction and testing of prototype development engine designs and subsequent modification to designs, based on test results, modelling and analysis
Specification of test engine Bill of Material and checking of engine models for gaps/clashes
Production of final design information for use in preparation of layouts, parts lists, etc.
Preparation of specifications for aero engine components to aid procurement and manufacture
Accurate data management in large technical databases and creation of metric reports
Assessment of technical reports and drawings for Export Control restrictions and Intellectual Property declarations to safeguard the customer’s business
Creation and assessment of new manufacture, rework, repair and overhaul processes and techniques for gas turbine components, ensuring those parts satisfy commercial, airworthiness and safety requirements

Required Skills (Technical Competencies)
Excellent understanding of the operation of a gas turbine in a commercial aviation application.
Appreciation of aero engine development testing and the certification process together with airworthiness and safety considerations. Previous experience in the aerospace or engineering industry or previous experience of engine, unit or component testing or instrumentation would be beneficial.
Good understanding of technical databases and design documentation, including technical drawings. This includes data manipulation in complex databases, writing technical reports and creation of drawings.
Good understanding of the requirements for export control and intellectual property control when transferring design data across company and geographical boundaries.
Candidates are required to be computer literate in MS Office applications Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer. More advanced MS Office skills such as Visual Basic, Excel macro’s etc. would be advantageous but not essential. Previous experience of using bespoke engineering IT systems PLM Teamcenter, PDM, SAP, etc. would be ideal but is not essential as on the job IT user training will be given.

The job requires excellent personal organisational and communication skills as methodical working and interaction with the customer are essential elements to this position.
After initial orientation and training, the successful candidate will be given general direction from the Team Leader, but will be required to perform duties and responsibilities independently.

Able to represent the team at customer meetings up to senior level and progress resulting actions

Qualifications
BSc/MSc/Meng degree level qualification in engineering or science discipline (or other degree discipline with additional gas turbine training or experience) or equivalent aerospace industry experience (at least five years)
