Design Engineer - Forging Specialist
📍 Based in the West Midlands - commutable from Birmingham, Coventry, Redditch, Worcester, Solihull, Bromsgrove, Warwickshire, and surrounding areas
💼 Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 DOE + competitive benefits

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a passion for forging and precision engineering? Our client, a specialist manufacturer of high-integrity components for critical applications, is seeking a Design Engineer to focus on the design and development of forged components, tooling, and related processes - particularly within the aerospace sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking, engineering-led organisation where your expertise will directly impact product quality, production performance, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Component & Tooling Design: Design and optimise forged components and tooling to meet technical and performance requirements
Process Development: Create and refine forging processes, focusing on material flow, die configuration, and grain structure
CAD & Simulation: Use NX (or similar) for 3D design and FEA to simulate forging behaviour and improve performance
Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve issues, improve die life, and reduce defects
Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement design improvements to increase yield, minimise waste, and boost product integrity
Documentation: Produce high-quality technical drawings, specifications, and design change documentationIdeal Candidate

Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
2+ years' experience in a design engineering role, ideally within metal forging or heavy industrial manufacturing
Strong CAD skills - preferably NX or SolidWorks
Hands-on FEA experience for structural and flow analysis
Good understanding of forging techniques, tooling, and metallurgical principles
Familiarity with GD&T and technical drawing standards
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Aerospace or defence industry experience is a plusWhy Apply?
