The Amazon Devices team designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics, including the best-selling Kindle family of products. We have also produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Dash, and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

A Software Developer Engineer (SDE) at Amazon works on real-world problems on a global scale, owns their systems end to end, and influences the direction of our technology that impacts hundreds of millions of customers around the world. At Amazon, an SDE can expect to lead team(s) of highly performing individuals in the design of flexible and scalable solutions, and day-to-day operations. They will work on some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing by utilizing skills in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. We will be working on building and operating new services that will help improve the experience of our customers when doing over-the-air updates, telemetry, and troubleshooting their devices.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Think big, bringing fresh ideas and interactions that make device services development easy and intuitive.
  2. You take a long-term view of architecture, proactively fixing deficiencies and/or proposing larger projects.
  3. You understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade-offs.
  4. You are a key influencer in team strategy.
  5. You bring perspective and provide context to guide future technology choices.
  6. Your code submissions and approach to work are exemplary. You write software that is easy for others to contribute to.
  7. You drive engineering best practices (e.g., Operational Excellence, Security, Quality, etc.) and set standards.
  8. When confronted with discordant views, you are able to find the best way forward and influence others to follow that path (build consensus).
  9. You contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices.
  10. You ensure your team is stronger because of your presence but does not require your presence to be successful.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Development experience defining, developing, and maintaining web service APIs.
  • Development experience with Linux and embedded operating systems.
  • Development experience with communications products (e.g., IP messaging, voice, and video).
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other software developers to maintain architectural vision and software quality.
