Job Title: Senior Product Definition Engineer

Working Pattern: Hybrid - 3 Days a week in the office

Working location: Bristol

Why Rolls-Royce? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Definition Engineer to work within RollsRoyce Power Systems (RRPS) in Bristol. As part of NautIQ Solutions team, they will be working closely with other engineering disciplines to design Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems. Currently work is focused on designing Complex, Power Dense Switchboards for Naval Applications, combined with an expanding control system portfolio following business optimisation, acquisition and partnering opportunities within the company. In addition, as part of Rolls-Royce's pathway to net-zero the team is also starting to develop low voltage dc hybrid propulsion systems, combining Rolls-Royce diesel generators and batteries into a complete dc system offering that includes the Integrated Platform Management Systems.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, a minimum of three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will be responsible for authoring, reviewing, and substantiating Marine Mechanical design definitions for power distribution systems; you will:

• Prepare, develop, and maintain the 3D master CAD model, technical drawing, and relevant documentation in accordance with company procedures, engineering drawing standards, design intent (fit, form, function), manufacturing & build capability, project costs, timescales, and quality requirements. • Work as part of a multi-discipline team to ensure new and revised component definitions are fit for purpose (meets design intent, manufacturable etc.)

• Create specialised bespoke CAD models for analysis purposes and the management, update, and incorporation of Drawing Alteration Requests.

• Produce tolerance stack-ups to aid new product creation & validation and to support inservice investigation work.

• Actively promote, encourage, and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, methods, and guidance material).

Specifically, a Mechanical Design Engineer must:

• Be educated to degree level or equivalent in a mechanical field with experience in design techniques.

• Have proven experience in Mechanical design using 2D and 3D CAD to develop optimised design solutions.

• Highly numerate with good technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking. Excellent communication, written, interpersonal and presentation skills, and will need to be able to work effectively in a team environment.

• Able to work accurately and at pace. Driven to succeed and can take the lead in identifying project requirements, specifying, and executing packages of work.

• Have appropriate engineering experience in conceptual and detail design, detail drafting methods and a good understanding of manufacturing techniques.

• Be able to work both individually and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

• Experienced in using Siemens NX and Teamcenter is essential.

• Experienced in using ISO/British Standard and/or ASME Y14.5M drawing standards is essential.

It would be advantageous if you:

• Are professionally registered as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or be working towards gaining a professional status.

• Are experienced in designing equipment to operate to naval, military, or similar environmental or regulatory standards.

• Demonstrable understanding of process driven drawing change control and associated configuration management principles.
