The role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating Mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support. 

Day-to-day you'll contribute and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support to our key customers, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs;

Substantiation of reports/designs for installation solutions; this can include development/analysis and/or verification/validation of Power and Propulsion designs, Auxiliary Ship Systems and/or HVAC system designs Preparation and production of substantiation reports for mechanical and marine solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle phases (Concept, Basic, Functional, Detail, Manufacturing, Installation and Decommissioning), in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements. Liaising with design teams and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs, including supporting design reviews. Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries. Provide mentoring support to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their professional development.

This role is full-time, permanent with a hybrid working arrangement. Base locations can be either Bristol, Plymouth or Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

A high level of developed knowledge within your specialist subject area (the role is directly accountable for design development, and determines solutions to problems and issues) Demonstrable experience of using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 2D and 3D CAD packages Experience in the development of Marine and Mechanical engineering systems on marine platforms (desirable)* Experience of contributing/leading Design Reviews Experience of working with Production Teams  Good written and verbal communication skills

*Although the role is working within the Marine industry we will consider candidates from all industries including building services, defence and construction.

Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Ideally degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in relevant field will be considered. You will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status (or have a clear route through to chartership)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
