Working for Waukesha Bearings as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the creation of high precision, multi-component 3D models and drawings that meet the application requirements, by utilizing knowledge and experience combined with standard design practices.

You will perform checking duties related to assembly and component drawings, part structures (BOM’s) and item specific information for accuracy of design intent and application specific information.

Also contributing to process improvements and design for manufacturability activities as well as in the development and implementation of company-wide design standards and practices that reflect industry best practices and improved efficiency.

 

You will be working within the design engineering team at the main European manufacturing facility For Dover Precision Components in Polmadie, Glasgow, where we utilise a broad range of multi-axis milling and turning centres and associated equipment to produce a varied mix of customised fluid-film bearings, isolators and seals for typical applications in turbo and industrial rotating machinery, supplying customers throughout Europe and further afield.

 

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Industrial Product Design, Aerospace, etc.)
  • A Minimum of 5 years of full-time, post graduate work experience in an engineered product environment, ideally designing items such as turbomachinery or rotating equipment, or components thereof. Examples being Fluid-Film Bearings, Turbines, Pumps or Gas Compressors
  • Experienced in precision design and manufacturing, having a strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices
  • Experience reading & developing engineering design prints with geometric dimensioning and tolerances
  • Highly skilled in the creation of 3D models and associated 2D drawings, preferably with experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D modelling software
  • The ability to utilize precision measuring and surveying instruments such as calipers, inside/outside micrometers, depth gages, surfaces gages, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply continuous improvement techniques to existing processes and procedures

 

Key Skills Required

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, structural and fluid dynamics, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Windows operating systems as well as advanced level skills with 3D modelling software
  • Experience FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus or COMSOL highly desired
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

 

What You Will Do

  • Creation of 3D models and associated 2D drawings
  • Creation of Item and Part Structure (BOM) information
  • Maintain 3D model and 2D drawing database within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
  • Perform checking duties on assembly and component level drawings
  • Provide guidance & training to other design engineers and drafters
  • Update existing drawings to current/best manufacturing processes
  • Participate in and contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities
  • Prepare engineering project proposals
  • Participate in client/contractor meetings
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Assist with the review and creation of design standards & work procedures
  • Support manufacturing personnel with evaluations of non-conformance, corrective/preventative action investigations and other quality related activities
  • Independently responsible for meeting deadlines necessary to support the company’s commitments to customers and manufacturing
