The GIS senior manager is responsible for the implementation, management, and analysis of GIS technologies to support the development, construction, and operation of the SMR project.

Reporting to the digital engineering and BIM operation director, this role involves overseeing the creation, integration, and maintenance of geospatial data and systems to support decision-making, project planning, site selection, environmental assessments, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

You will form part of the establishment of major programmes across the country and globally. This will provide you with an opportunity to be part of a team that ensures successful delivery of cutting-edge programmes and projects, helping to ensure that they minimise their environmental impact whilst delivering cost-effective services. Whilst this is a fast-paced and exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity and change.

You’ll be responsible for:

Drive the adoption and use of GIS data environment and software. Maintain a ‘single source of truth’ for spatial information for the project. Support the development of a comprehensive GIS strategy for multiple projects, aligning with project goals and regulatory requirements. Manage the collection, integration, and analysis of geospatial data to support project planning, site evaluation, environmental impact assessments, and operational processes. Ensure GIS data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards and best practices. Work towards integration of GIS data with other digital tools such as BIM, digital twins, and engineering software to enhance project coordination and planning. Provide GIS support for project teams, offering spatial analysis for site selection, infrastructure planning, and environmental risk assessments. Create detailed maps, 3D models, and visualizations to assist project teams and stakeholders in understanding spatial relationships and project impacts. Use GIS tools to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including assessments of land use, floodplains, seismic activity, and proximity to sensitive ecosystems. Work closely with engineering, construction, and environmental teams to ensure that GIS solutions are effectively integrated into projects workflows. Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and governmental agencies to ensure accurate and timely data exchange related to GIS. Provide training and support to project teams and stakeholders on the use of GIS tools and systems.

You’ll need to have:

Strong background in GIS within a highly regulated environment, with experience in applying spatial data analytics to enhance project outcomes and safety. Strong understanding of GIS applications in site selection, environmental analysis, and project planning within highly regulated industries. Expertise in GIS software and tools, such as Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo, and remote sensing technologies. Strong understanding of spatial data analysis, geoprocessing, and cartographic principles. Proven record of delivering technically challenging projects. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions under pressure. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with digital and non-digital stakeholders. Ability to foster a collaborative and supportive environment, whilst developing team members’ skills and capabilities. Have the capability to embrace change and uncertainty and welcome the emergent aspect of the job.  Ability to lead in a collaborative, multi-party environment at pace.

You’ll also have:

Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices in information management, including cybersecurity and data protection. Experience working to ISO19650 and ISO 14001. Ideally a degree in GIS, engineering, master planning, construction or technology management.
