The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is seeking Principal Mechanical Engineers to join their expanding teams in Warrington and Bristol. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering the chance to work on high-profile, technically challenging projects within a highly regulated environment. You’ll play a key role in delivering engineering solutions, guiding teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

We would also welcome applications from these industries: defence, aerospace, oil & gas, rail, and marine.

This role would suit candidates working in these roles: Senior Mechanical Engineer, Lead Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Engineering Team Leader, Mechanical Project Engineer,  or Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
Leading mechanical engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to delivery.
Providing technical oversight and mentoring to junior and mid-level engineers.
Ensuring engineering outputs meet regulatory and safety standards.
Reviewing and approving technical documentation and design drawings.
Supporting the development of engineering strategies and design substantiation.
Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges.
Applying sound engineering judgement to solve both technical and interpersonal issues.
Communicating complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and practices.
Working on-site with the team at least two days per week to support collaboration and delivery.You will have the following qualifications and experience
Proven experience in a Principal or equivalent senior mechanical engineering role.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their practical application.
Demonstrable experience working within regulated environments and to relevant standards.
Experience leading teams or mentoring engineers on complex engineering projects.
