Do you want to work on the most pressing problem of our generation? Do you have experience as a founder or entrepreneur and know what it’s like to roll up your sleeves and execute well, while building a company around you for the long term? If you truly know what it feels like to fly the plane while trying to build it, we want to hear from you. We’re looking for the best software engineers in the world to join a growing series A startup. At CarbonChain we see the climate crisis as a transformative opportunity for the global economy, and a rewarding career opportunity.

Decarbonizing the economy requires a granular, real-time view of where emissions come from and how they might be reduced. We’ve built software to automate the carbon footprinting of supply chains so their emissions can be measured and managed down. Banks, traders, and manufacturers use our product to tame the complexity of international supply networks, identify the most carbon-intensive parts, and find greener alternatives. Having developed technology which is significantly ahead of competitive solutions, we are now investing heavily in market adoption.

To join CarbonChain, you’ll need a proven career path in software engineering both in building and operating software, and building and coaching high performing teams. Our company is made up of passionate people with expertise ranging from oil refining to deep learning. Between us we’ve run Amazon’s European supply chain, built JustEat’s corporate meal delivery platform, and monitored industrial emissions with satellites in all corners of the globe. We’ve got MBAs and PhDs but we know that there’s a lot we don’t know, and we’re hoping you can help fill that gap.

About the Role

The Tech teams at CarbonChain build and operate the systems that help sustainability leaders decarbonise their industries. We enable the union of carbon data with our customer’s data to create actionable insights into where carbon emissions are generated in our customer’s supply chains. This is an exciting mix of fullstack software engineering, backend systems engineering, data engineering and data science.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Software Engineers in London and NYC as we build our best in class carbon accounting platform. The successful candidate will be a software engineering leader who has operated as a hands-on tech lead and then transitioned across to Engineering Management to lead and develop highly technical teams and scale their impact.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day technology execution of our software teams, will be responsible for product delivery, and focus on delivering innovative product improvements. This role includes interfacing with the leadership team on long-term strategy, helping engineers across the organization solve problems, and delivering excellent solutions for our customers.

This role will report directly into our CTO and be a partner to our Head of Product and Head of Data.

What we require from applicants

  • At least 2 years of experience managing multiple software teams in a startup environment
  • 3 or more years of experience in a tech lead role
  • A strong customer focus. Experience working closely with Product Designers and Managers to define products, manage trade offs, and drive adoption with customers
  • Experience building and operating software hosted in a cloud provider environment
  • Experiencing hiring and developing software engineers and contributing to the development of a generative culture
  • Ideally experience building data processing systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work in our London office 3 days per week in Camden Market

What we’re offering

  • CarbonChainer’s receive a ton of great benefits, including:
  • 26 days of annual leave
  • Home office set up allowance of £500
  • £2,000 annual learning allowance
  • Generous parental leave policy
  • Team lunches once a week in the office
  • Subsidized gym classes, office gym, and cycle to work scheme.

We're striving to build a diverse team and we would love to hear from applicants from backgrounds less frequently represented in technology, be that in terms of gender, race, or professional background.

If you think your skills and experience match what we’re looking for and you’d like to join a Carbon Tech industry unicorn, please get in touch!

CarbonChain values diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds.
