Mechanical Design Engineer - Aerospace

Our client, an Aerospace and Defence supplier is looking for a Design Engineer (Aircraft Weight and Balance Engineer) to join them on a contract basis at their site in Chester.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold the sole British nationality and be eligible to obtain full SC Clearance.
12-month initial contract.
Based in Chester, with predominantly remote working available
Deemed inside IR35, rates are open to discussion.The work to be undertaken is to work with existing data and toolsets (predominantly excel based) to produce a robust and reusable aircraft weight and balance tool. The tool shall be capable of taking existing aircraft role fit data, new modification data and in service role fit and carry on data to calculate accurate weight and balance evidence to be used for design assurance, aircraft certification evidence and in service operation performance calculations.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced aircraft engineer with knowledge of aircraft weight calculations and procedure creation. The contract role is to produce the tool and operating procedure to allow its ongoing use by other design and in service engineers. A high level of attention to detail is required.

Responsibilities

Liaise with modification Design Engineers to understand the design and aircraft equipment fits.
Production of aircraft modification weight declarations to enable modification certifications.
Production of a tool to allow total aircraft weight and balance to be repeatedly and accurately predicted.
Production of a weight and balance process to allow other engineers to perform weight and balance activities in a similar and repeatable manner.
Production, if required, of an operation and maintenance procedure to allow ongoing use and maintenance of the weight and balance tool or process.

Skills and Experience

Knowledge of aircraft weight and balance requirements and calculations.
Proven and recent experience in the design, integration and certification of aircraft avionic and mechanical systems.
Understanding and experience of aircraft design processes.
Experience of working within a multi-discipline engineering team within the aerospace industry.

Desirable

Knowledge of aircraft systems.
Knowledge of military aircraft modification and certification processes and regulations.
Knowledge of civil aircraft modification and certification processes and regulations
