About the Company

Our client, a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation and a subsidiary of a global aerospace business are seeking a Test Engineer to join their Laboratory team in Slough. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer with experience in product testing, qualification, validation, and continuous improvement who is looking to develop their career within a technically advanced engineering business.

The Role

The Test Engineer will be responsible for facilitating and performing laboratory-based testing and qualification activities on existing and new products, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and approval requirements.

The successful candidate will own and manage laboratory equipment, develop and improve test methods, support engineering projects, coordinate external testing programmes, and provide technical expertise across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine, qualification, validation, and development testing on existing and new products to ensure defined specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory approvals are met.
  • Investigating test failures, anomalies, and product performance issues.
  • Carrying out technical and statistical investigations into products and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Analyse test results and identify opportunities for product and process improvement, whilst producing detailed technical reports including findings, conclusions, measurements, and photographic evidence.
  • Provide accurate testing data to support product development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining and monitoring laboratory equipment to ensure it remains fit for purpose
  • Candidate Requirements

Education & Experience

  • HNC, HND, Technical Apprenticeship, Degree, or equivalent industry experience in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Several years' practical experience within a testing, laboratory, validation, qualification, or engineering environment.
  • Experience carrying out mechanical, environmental, or materials testing.
  • Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, rail, energy, or other highly regulated manufacturing sectors.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and industry standards, ideally AS9100.

Technical Skills

  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as tensile testing equipment, fatigue testing machines, environmental chambers, or similar equipment.
  • Strong understanding of product qualification, validation, and verification processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Experience analysing technical data and producing detailed reports.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Experience developing test methods, procedures, or fixtures would be advantageous.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capability.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement.

If you are a motivated Test Engineer looking for a role that combines laboratory testing, product qualification, technical investigation, engineering support, and continuous improvement, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Where to Advertise Space Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise space jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, agency channels and community routes that reach satellite, propulsion and launch talent. The candidate pool spans satellite engineers, propulsion specialists, mission analysts, ground segment software developers, space systems architects and commercial space professionals — a highly specific multidisciplinary community that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest space candidates are often embedded in ESA programmes, academic research groups, UK Space Agency-funded projects or established primes, and move between roles through sector-specific networks, industry bodies and conference communities rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by UKSpaceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise space industry roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
