Role Profile

A thriving manufacturing / engineering company in Stockport is seeking an experienced Technical Buyer to join its established team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional with a strong engineering background to play a key role in supporting the long-term service and maintenance of complex engineered products. Working closely with Engineering, Supply Chain and Suppliers, you'll be responsible for sourcing critical mechanical components, managing supplier relationships and driving strategies to combat component obsolescence, ensuring continuity of supply for legacy equipment operating around the world.

This is a highly collaborative role where technical understanding is just as important as commercial acumen. You'll have the opportunity to influence procurement strategy, develop supplier partnerships and help shape the company's approach to obsolescence management.

If you have experience buying technical or engineered components within a manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, defence or heavy engineering environment, we'd love to hear from you.

What will the role involve?

  • Procuring a wide range of technical and engineered components from approved global suppliers.
  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies to minimise the impact of component obsolescence across legacy products.
  • Identifying parts and components within the BOM which are at risk of obsolescence.
  • Developing suitable strategies to mitigate risk of obsolescence, such as last-time buys, alternative componentry or part re-design.
  • Collaborating extensively with all stakeholders including internal teams such as Procurement, Supply Chain and Engineering, as well as external suppliers and customers.
  • Maintaining accurate reporting on Obsolescence, using obsolescence management tools and databases.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of Obsolescence Management processes within the business.

Ideal Skills & Experience:

  • Strong procurement background and technical skills - e.g. Degree, CIPS or other formal qualification.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical or electromechanical components and engineering drawings.
  • Previous involvement in Obsolescence Management, Product Lifecycle Support or sourcing obsolete components would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret engineering requirements and communicate effectively with both technical and commercial stakeholders.

Why should I apply?

  • Fantastic opportunity to work in a collaborative, technical engineering environment
  • A brand new role that you can shape and make your own
  • Competitive Salary and fantastic benefits package including 28 days' holiday plus bank holidays and generous pension contributions
  • Flexitime and hybrid working
  • Great working environment and culture
