Senior Mechanisms Engineer | Space / Aerospace | Guildford | Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced mechanisms engineer to support the existing and expanding range of space mechanisms used on spacecraft for a leading space and satellite company. This is an amazing opportunity for an engineer to work on space mechanisms in a stimulating and mission-critical environment! The vacancy requires a high level of electro-mechanical technical design, analysis, production, and test coupled with the requirement to manage multiple work packages. The role will allow the engineer to work on multiple products and influence the product offerings to fulfil the requirements of mission-level projects. Strong engineering capability coupled with a positive attitude is essential… being a space-guru is not!

Mechanisms Engineers face significant challenges during spacecraft launch and whilst in orbit. The attention to detail and ability to ensure that what is delivered would operate for potentially 15 years with no maintenance and 100% reliability whilst providing low-cost innovative solutions that are designed for manufacture (DFM) makes every day an exciting challenge.

Key Tasks

Design and analysis of new or evolution of existing mechanism products including working with other areas of the business for system trade-offs.

Design for manufacture (DFM).

Hands-on engineering including development and flight build, testing and spacecraft integration.

Managing multiple tasks and work packages in parallel with changeable priorities.

Interfacing with internal and external customers including presentations and technical reviews.

Authoring technical documents (e.g., design reports, procedures, test reports).

Previous Experience

Mechanical/mechanism/mechatronic engineering experience, preferably in a high reliability environment (e.g. aerospace, defence, marine, space). Additionally able to demonstrate passion for moving to or maintaining their career in the space industry will also help! The salary would reflect the relevant experience.

Mechanical design experience of stress-critical components, implementing precision tolerance analysis, drafting, materials and manufacturing methods.

Awareness and understanding of the use of electronics and software/firmware in an engineering environment and demonstrated ability to help electronics/software engineers test and debug is an advantage, although electronics/software design for flight will be undertaken by other teams.Qualifications Knowledge & Skills

MEng or BEng or equivalent in engineering (i.e. mechanical, mechatronic or similar).

An appreciation of Design for Manufacture (DFM).

Self-motivated, creative, high attention to detail and accountable.

Practical ability.

Ability to work autonomously or within project team(s) and able to work as in a ‘One Team’ environment.

Strong communication within the organisation and outside to customers and suppliers.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure and in an organised manner: positive and persistent attitude.

Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.

Knowledge of components that would be used in mechanisms.

Use of CAD and FEA software knowledge preferable with design/idealisation intent.

Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)

Able to demonstrate company mindsets and behaviours; Be accountable, drive & delivery, communicate effectively, self-manage effectively, work as one team.Visa Support

UK Skilled Worker Visa and sponsorship is available for this role. Relocation assistance also available.

Where to Advertise Space Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise space jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, agency channels and community routes that reach satellite, propulsion and launch talent. The candidate pool spans satellite engineers, propulsion specialists, mission analysts, ground segment software developers, space systems architects and commercial space professionals — a highly specific multidisciplinary community that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest space candidates are often embedded in ESA programmes, academic research groups, UK Space Agency-funded projects or established primes, and move between roles through sector-specific networks, industry bodies and conference communities rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by UKSpaceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise space industry roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
