Degas is an innovative AI company dedicated to improving the incomes of smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. We believe Africa’s development is closely tied to the success of its farmers. Currently, we operate large-scale programs with over 20,000 smallholder farmers across more than 15,000 hectares of dispersed farmland. Through a network of 100 locally stationed field agents, we collect data from each farm. This data is processed through our proprietary geospatial foundation model to generate AI-driven solutions, providing actionable insights directly in the field.
Job Description
This position will lead the social implementation of solutions using satellite imagery and AI. As Degas’ execution lead for projects involving government agencies, international development organizations, private companies, NGOs, and foundations, you will be responsible for:
Regular coordination, progress tracking, and Q&A with partners such as government agencies and development institutions.
Collaborating with the ML team to organize requirements, understand technical specifications, and align deliverables.
Preparing and delivering reports, presentation materials, and other project outputs.
Managing execution plans for grant and subsidy projects.
Preparing for regular partner meetings, taking minutes, and following up on action items.
Building SOPs for project management and proposing/implementing efficiency improvements.
Required Qualifications
Business-level English (reading, writing, and speaking).
2+ years’ experience executing IT/AI implementation, PoC, or grant-funded projects.
Hands-on experience in project management and document preparation (Google Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
Experience coordinating work with tech teams (ML, engineers).
Proven ability to manage tasks and stakeholders independently.
Strong initiative and execution ability in environments with high uncertainty and ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Experience working with government agencies (e.g., MEXT, Ministry of Agriculture), international development organizations (e.g., JICA, UN), and private sector partners (mainly in technology).
Interest in and knowledge of AI and development-related projects.
Experience collaborating with native English-speaking teams via Slack/Zoom.
Experience building project SOPs/templates or working in a PMO capacity.
Experience executing projects in startups or resource-constrained environments.
Work Location
Primarily remote (ANYWHERE).
However, as many partners (government agencies, private companies) are located in Tokyo, candidates should be able to visit the city about three times a week for meetings or deliverables.
Occasional domestic and international travel (e.g., Asia, Africa) may be required.
