Mechanical Inspector – Precision Engineering

Location: Basingstoke
Hours: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week) - Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:30 Friday: 07:30 – 14:00

Pay Rate: £17 p/h + negotiable

Our client are a market leading manufacturer of high precision parts for a number of industries including aerospace and automotive. We are assisting them with their search for an experienced Mechanical Inspector to join their busy team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced Apprenticeship or Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (preferred)

  • Proven experience in mechanical/quality inspection within CNC machining and precision manufacturing

    Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient with inspection tools: Verniers, Micrometers, Bore Gauges, Linear Height Gauges, Surface Finish Testers

  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards

  • Working knowledge of CMM operation (Mitutoyo preferred)

  • Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and communication skills

  • Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel

    Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Goods Inwards, In-Process, and Final Inspection of components

  • Perform visual/dimensional checks and assess surface condition

  • Create and compile Inspection Reports, Certificates of Conformance, FAIRs, and customer QA documentation

  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports and contribute to 8D investigations

  • Verify processing steps per route cards

  • Maintain calibration records and support system accuracy

  • Liaise with production teams and ensure inspection documentation is correct and complete

  • Fulfill additional duties set by the Inspection Team Leader and Head of Quality
