Role: Maintenance Manager
Location:Birmingham
Job Type:Permanent, full-time
Salary Range:£57,000–£70,000 + benefits
About the Role
We are partnering with a leading aerospace components manufacturer in Birmingham to recruit a Maintenance Manager to lead their engineering maintenance function.
This is a high-specification manufacturing environment, producing flight-critical, tight-tolerance components where machine uptime, accuracy and traceability are non-negotiable.
As Maintenance Manager, you'll take full ownership of the site's maintenance operation, leading a team of skilled engineers, safeguarding the performance of precision machining assets, and ensuring equipment capability meets the exacting demands of the AS9100 quality management system.
Your Mission
- Direct all aspects of mechanical, electrical and fluid power maintenance across a facility running precision manufacturing equipment, including 5-axis machining centres, CNC turning cells, grinding machines and EDM capability
- Build and drive a maintenance strategy that supports the site's OEE targets, shifting the balance from reactive intervention to planned, condition-based asset care
- Own the site's calibration and equipment capability programme, ensuring measuring equipment and machine tools remain within tolerance and fully traceable in line with aerospace quality requirements
- Manage the PPM schedule within the CMMS, maintaining accurate asset histories and documentation that will stand up to internal, customer and AS9100/NADCAP audits
- Lead, develop and motivate a team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers, setting clear standards, coaching technical skills and building a culture of accountability
- Control the maintenance budget, managing spares inventory, contractor spend and capital proposals to deliver value without compromising equipment integrity
- Support new machine installations, capacity expansion projects and technology upgrades, providing engineering input from specification through to run-off and acceptance testing
- Work hand-in-glove with production, quality and manufacturing engineering teams to protect delivery schedule adherence (DSA) and support programmes aligned to SC21 improvement goals
What You'll Bring
- Significant experience in a maintenance leadership role within aerospace, precision engineering or another high-specification manufacturing sector
- A strong technical grounding across mechanical and electrical disciplines, with a solid appreciation of precision machine tools and their criticality in a flight-critical supply chain
- Working knowledge of aerospace quality frameworks — AS9100 as a minimum, with exposure to NADCAP special processes a distinct advantage
- A track record of managing CMMS-driven maintenance operations, with the analytical mindset to interrogate downtime data and act on it
- Proven people leadership — you can develop technicians, hold standards and inspire a team even when the pressure is on
- Commercial and budgetary acumen, with the ability to build a compelling business case for investment in plant and equipment
- Relevant qualifications (HNC/HND or degree-level engineering, or time-served with demonstrable progression) alongside a commitment to health and safety leadership on the shop floor
The Rewards
- A salary of £57,000–£70,000, commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package
- Seniority and autonomy — you'll own the maintenance strategy and report into senior site leadership
- The opportunity to lead maintenance in a genuine aerospace environment, where engineering standards and precision matter every single day
- A visible platform to make your mark, backed by a business investing in its facility, technology and people
- Ongoing development, from leadership training through to exposure to the wider aerospace programme landscape
- A permanent, secure position with an established manufacturer serving some of the most demanding customers in the industry
How to Apply
If you're an experienced maintenance leader ready to take on a flagship role in aerospace manufacturing, we'd love to receive your CV.
