Job Title: Weights/ Mass Properties Engineer

Salary: up to £45,500 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Preston

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Weights/ Mass Properties Engineer. The role will be based just outside of Preston and offers the opportunity for hybrid working (3 days per week on site) and flexible working hours. Individual circumstances can be discussed.

They work at the cutting edge of technology, creating more than 100 new inventions every year for customers in over 100 countries.

The Weights/ Mass Properties Engineer will be joining the Weights team who are tasked to the Design Authority mass properties data across multiple platforms e.g. Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk, F35. etc. Design activities require drawing assessments, mass property modelling, data configuration management, etc. The build line support work drives them to physically weigh aircraft and produce flight safety critical data direct from the weighing that is then uploaded to aircraft, their flight development fleet activities are contracted by the Maintenance Organisation to manage the mass properties of their fleet of aircraft, that also help with capability enhancement programmes which include insertion of new stores.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mass properties management of all new design and of changes which include analysing production drawings, change authorities, Catia models, 2-D drawings, etc

  • Mass property modelling of all the design activities

  • Mass properties management of full aircrafts supporting our final assembly activities

  • Management of the safety critical Upload Mass properties data for all the in-service fleets that the company support

  • Management of the aircraft mass properties for all assets that support our flight testing activities

  • Aircraft and stores weighing activities

  • Development of the mass properties toolsets

    About You:

  • Understanding of data/data management and having strong numeracy skills

  • Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of managing a mass properties system

  • Intermediate Excel proficiency – eg macros, pivot tables, visual basic etc

  • Ability to work in a team environment, able to communicate on all levels effectively

    You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
