The Opportunity
Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever-growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuring that there will be a brighter and greener future for us all.

As part of this growth, we are now actively seeking an experienced Technical Laser Welder (Expert!) on a fixed term contract basis for a likely minimum duration of 6 months, although there is a chance that this might see extension beyond this term.

On offer to the successful candidate is a highly competitive pro-rata salary, together with full benefits.

The role The Laser Welding Technical Expert works as part of the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop and demonstrate practical feasibility of laser welding systems and technologies with customers. The role works directly with customers and project teams, where you will prepare weld trials and perform welding tests, sampling, and demonstrations of scale up capability of a wide range of welding technologies and processes.

As their Laser Welding Expert, you will work as part of a highly skilled team of engineers and scientists. They provide welding solutions for various battery applications. As the subject matter expert, the role troubleshoots problems, diagnoses, repairs and achieves technical welding equipment solutions and approaches with developing technology.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
Create and enhance welding parameters, develop processes for various applications.
Capability to work with industry standard laser welding equipment specifically – Manz.
Providing laser welding application advice for customers / internal teams.
Conduct and design welding tests, create samples for customers, and technology demonstrations, including evaluation of technical requirements, preparing and processing customer applications.
Providing expert technical support to engineering and welding queries/problems.
Technical report writing and customer collaboration.
Produce expert training for different welding processes to internal teams.
On site troubleshooting, diagnostics, and support the service, repair, and development of welding equipment as subject matter expert.
Supporting engineers from other disciplines in solving complex manufacturing issues.
Technology advancement of both equipment and supply chain.
Collaboration and engagement with the research community on welding topics.
Responsible for laser welding activities across the business in the field of lithium-ion battery cell and module & pack manufacturing in support of specific module projects.
Engage with the research community, collaborate, and contribute to technology development roadmaps and the creation of new processes and methods of processing.
Understand the latest laser welding and joining technology principles and their application for lithium-ion battery cell and module & pack technology across all market sectors.You will have the following qualifications & experience
You should be ideally educated to Degree level (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in a relevant Engineering or Materials Science discipline, although plenty of relevant Laser Welding experience will be considered.
Any of the following Certifications would be a bonus here; AWS Certified Laser Welder (CLW) certification, AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) Certification, Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification, IIW Laser Welding Certification, Industry-Specific Certification, ISO 9001 Laser Welding Certification, Laser Safety Certification by Laser Institute of America (LIA), Manufacturer-Specific Certification.
You should offer multiple years’ experience working as a Laser Welder with knowledge of Laser processing, marking or machining.
It is likely that you would have gained your Laser Welding expertise from previously working in the Automotive, Battery, Aerospace or Defence sectors or perhaps even an aligned industry, where you have welded with copper and aluminium.
You will need to be skilled in analysis and investigation of laser weld defects.
You must demonstrate experience of sound judgment with strong attention to detail and good organisational skills, having the ability to clearly prioritise work in a dynamic manufacturing development environment.
You will be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.It’s great if you also have the following
Use of SharePoint and other programs such as CAD is beneficial here, but is not essential. 
CNC or robotic programming, scientific analysis and vision systems experience would be useful here too, but it is not again essential.This position is available with immediate effect.
