POSITION SUMMARY:
Join Alexander Dennis in Farnborough as a Technician (Electrical) in our Test & Development department. You'll be part of an 11 person technician team, focusing on electrical work and assisting with mechanical tasks in our purpose built Test and Development facility. Collaborate with T&D Engineers to build and set up vehicles with the correct components and instrumentation for testing, both on-site and at test facilities. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Diagnostics:
Expert fault finding and rectification on all electrical systems and CAN network harnesses. Work on both high and low voltage systems for EV and hybrid vehicles. Utilize laptop-based diagnostic software for engines, gearboxes, CAN, and vehicle systems. Electrical: Build and modify harnesses from drawings (24V, High Voltage, and CAN). Create vehicle harnesses to link base units or components with basic information. Specify and use correct termination plugs and sockets. Conduct thorough fault finding and rectification. Maintain a solid understanding of vehicle harnesses and various termination components.
Mechanical:
Remove and replace components ranging from single units to axles and drive trains. Fabricate necessary bracketry to construct prototype systems.
Work Ethic:
Work comfortably unsupervised, using your initiative to meet deadlines. Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills to resolve issues efficiently and thoroughly. Health & Safety: Perform work safely using appropriate PPE, maintaining a clean and tidy work environment. Proactive Approach: Address and overcome challenges that arise during test work proactively. Travel: Be prepared for site-based work, with time spent at other ADL sites and proving grounds, including possible overnight stays and occasional overseas travel.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Good knowledge & experience of automotive electrical & mechanical systems, ideally commercial vehicle experience. Able to read and understand electrical drawings and circuit diagrams. Able to record and update circuit diagrams. Experience with high voltage & CAN systems. Experience in fault finding and resolution. Experience with instrumentation and data logging equipment. Knowledge and ability to carry out mechanical tests. Good communicator (working with Electrical design, suppliers etc.) Fluent in MS Office (Outlook, word & excel) Good communication skills, both written and verbal PSV or HGV license is desirable. Aware basic workshop machine tool operation Ability to work under own initiative. Experience with laptop based diagnostic equipment. Able to demonstrate instrumentation & data logging equipment experience (Analogue and CAN systems). Your work experience will be gained in the automotive industry and in particular; bus, coach, HGV, specialist vehicles or tier-1 suppliers. We would also welcome those who have gained skills from mobile plant, rail and rolling stock, aerospace, marine, or other similarly complex engineering environments.
Ideally your experience in vehicle test and development includes:
Vehicle test environment Experience with instrumentation types and application. Ability to learn and use laptop-based data logger software and diagnostic tools. Vehicle/drive line construction, commissioning, and use.
