We are looking to recruitSoftware Engineer (Reactor Physics)to join our expanding team. You will develop analytical software and tools to support the design, manufacture and operation of nuclear power plants for the Royal Navy. You'll be creating advanced software used by a range of teams to simulate and analyse complex physical processes within the nuclear reactor core. This software will be a vital tool to help scientists and engineers solve problems quicker and make more informed decisions.

What you will be doing:

Our core analytical software tools are written in a combination of Fortran and C++. For supporting tools and utilities we develop primarily in Python, taking advantage of the scientific ecosystem to solve a range of engineering problems. We control all our software using Git and Azure DevOps. Although experience in this full tech stack is desirable, we are more interested in your eagerness to learn and encourage applications from all development backgrounds.

  • Developing analytical software and tools to support the design, manufacture and operation of nuclear power plants for the Royal Navy.
  • Creating advanced software used by a range of teams to simulate and analyse complex physical processes within the nuclear reactor core
  • Working with a range of customers from diverse analytical disciplines to elicit requirements and translate them to traceable code.
  • Maintain software quality and integrity by rigorously testing and fixing bugs throughout the development and upkeep process.
  • Create software solutions that enable engineers, technical experts, and Rolls-Royce's customers to derive data-driven insights, enhancing decision-making processes.


Who we are looking for:

  • Experience in at least one of Python, Fortran and C++.
  • Experience developing/supporting high quality code that is interpretable, documented and tested.
  • A delivery focussed mindset, able to make decisions that make the best compromises between complexity and shipping value.
  • Strong communications skills, capable deliver presentations, reports and conducting meetings with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • You will have a numerate, degree level, education (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) or equivalent experience
