Signals/SIGINT Intelligence Specialist (271lw) – Aerospace – hybrid/remote, Sussex - £50,000-£60,000
Our client, an industry leader in aerospace data fusion, sensor technology & remote monitoring systems are seeking a skilled Signal Intelligence Specialist/Engineer, to focus on drone detection, identification, and tracking, as well as detecting handsets and other control mechanisms. The role requires SC clearance.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
The Signal Intelligence Specialist/Engineer will play a critical role in enhancing drone detection capabilities by leveraging signal intelligence to identify & track drones and their control devices. This role will involve advanced signal processing, RF detection, and communication analysis to support the real-time detection and identification of drone threats. The specialist will work closely with the systems engineering and sensor integration teams to develop and deploy technologies that enhance situational awareness platforms. Responsibilities will include:
Signal Detection & Analysis - Identify and analyse radio frequency (RF) signals associated with drones and their controllers (handsets). Utilise advanced SIGINT tools and techniques to detect, intercept, and process communication signals from drones. Develop algorithms to improve signal detection sensitivity and accuracy, enhancing the system's ability to track drone activity.
Drone Tracking & Identification - Support the design, development, and deployment of tools for detecting and tracking drones using RF signals. Provide real-time intelligence on drone movements and control sources.
Threat Intelligence - Evaluate and understand the latest developments in drone communication technologies (including frequency hopping, encrypted signals, etc.). Conduct threat assessments and maintain intelligence on emerging drone communication systems.
System Integration - Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate SIGINT capabilities into existing systems. Perform field tests and trials to validate system performance in real-world conditions.
Research & Development - Conduct research into new and evolving drone communication techniques and identify methods to exploit signal vulnerabilities.
Skills & Experience
Signal intelligence (SIGINT), electronic warfare (EW), or RF analysis, ideally within a drone or aerospace context.
Signal processing, frequency analysis, and the use of SIGINT tools (e.g., spectrum analysers, direction-finding systems).
RF communications, incl. modern digital modulation techniques & protocols used by drones.
Passive detection techniques such as Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA).
Familiarity with detecting and countering frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) and encrypted communications.
Ability to interpret and analyse signal data for tracking and identifying drone controllers.
Familiarity with integration of SIGINT into larger situational awareness systems and data fusion technologies.
It would be desirable to have a Degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of drone detection technologies such as ADS-B, MLAT, RF direction-finding, TDoA. Experience with AI and machine learning models applied to signal analysis and threat detection. Familiarity with commercial or open-source SIGINT software (e.g., GNU Radio, SDR platforms). MATLAB toolchain. Python software language
