Job Title: Senior Mechanical Designer

Salary: up to £50,000 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Senior Mechanical Designer. The role will be based in Cowes, Isle of Wight and will require the successful candidate to be on site full time. However the role does offer the option for part time and accruing hours as well as flexible working hours. Individual circumstances can be discussed.

The Radar Mechanical CAD Team provide Mechanical Computer Aided Design Services to the entire portfolio of Radar Products. The company continues to invest in the development of innovative radar technologies, pushing the boundaries of defence capability, helping the Armed Forces operate effectively in rapidly evolving complex environments and reinforcing our position as leaders in military radar.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working in a Senior Designer role or at that level with proven experience of using CAD software to create 2D and 3D solid modelled designs, for a wide range of products from small components to large complex sub-systems

  • Developing conceptual designs for radar products, sub-systems and units

  • Manage the engineering/manufacturing interface through the relevant manufacturing processes

  • Oversee the various production/assembly practices associated with the manufacture of that equipment, identifying long-lead piece parts, working with the Manufacturing Technicians to consider manufacturing improvements and, where needed, to liaise with sub-contract manufacturers or supplier

  • As the designs progress through the manufacturing, test, delivery and support lifecycle, the role holder will manage the Engineering Change for their area of responsibility against a robust change management process

    About You:

  • Currently working in a Senior Designer role or at that level with proven experience

  • Expert in the use of 2D and 3D CAD design tools, preferably Siemens NX

  • Experience of designing to meet Environmental requirements (EMC, Shock and Vibration)

  • Experience of design for manufacture and design for maintainability

  • A good understanding of BS8888 Engineering Drawing standards (previously BS308)

  • An understanding of Electrical drawing practices, creation of Circuit Diagrams and Wiring Schedules under the guidance of Electrical Engineers

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering

    You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
