As a Senior Engineer specialising in Closures, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing the Exteriors components and systems that form the backbone of our vehicles. Working within a collaborative and dynamic environment, you will contribute to various aspects of project execution, from initial design concepts to final product release. This role offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise and creativity to shape the future of automotive engineering at Gordon Murray Group.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the engineering, design and development of closures systems, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and aesthetic standards within a vehicle program. 
  • Delivery of Closures Systems within the defined programme timings and meet program KPIs
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including design, aerodynamics, quality, purchasing and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of body exteriors into the project. 
  • Working closely with suppliers to deliver systems, including but not limited to carrying out design for manufacture studies that allow the final part to achieve program requirements and timings
  • Define requirements for each system/assembly based on cascaded vehicle level targets and requirements. 
  • Carry out risk assessments and FMEA during the earliest conceptual stages of design to identify risks and help eliminate or reduce failures. 
  • Develop and implement testing and validation protocols to ensure the durability, reliability, and functionality of systems. 
  • Create and maintain working level plans, that are communicated with the design team and the project, that manage the delivery of components to project timing requirements. 
  • Defines and administers the structure, mass, design release data for the assemblies they're responsible for. Reports status of design completion for their components to the business.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence. 
  • Managing the day-to-day activities of the team within a program and delegate workloads fairly. Plan and evaluate team activities within a program and delegate as required. 


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design and engineering of high-performance Closure Systems
  • Working knowledge of: Body Panels, Body Closures, Glazing, Lighting, Ornamentation, Trim & Badges, Latches & Hinges
  • Working knowledge of: Carbon fibre laminate design. Supplier materials, including fibres, resin systems, sandwich core materials, and bonded assembly adhesive systems. Composite component tools design for manufacturability. 
  • Proven experience as a Senior Engineer with a focus on body composite design, preferably in the Automotive, Motorsport or Aerospace industries. 
  • Proficient using CATIA V5
  • A creative thinker with a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities. 
  • Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes. 
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients. 
  • Must be a team player. 
  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or similar
