Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bid Manager at Leonardo, the 'Home of British Helicopters'; a global leader in aerospace innovation.
You will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our UK bids and proposals and your primary focus will be to manage the UK bid team, consisting of Bid Managers and Bid Officers.
You will deliver some of the larger and more complex opportunities, working closely with the Head of Bids and Proposals to identify and implement lessons learnt through continuous improvement activities.
This position is a level 8 on our Salary & Career Progression Framework (S&CPF).
This role is hybrid but will require 3-4 days per week on site in Yeovil, Somerset.
Key Responsibilities as the Senior Bid Manager:
Develop, mentor and lead the UK Bids and Proposals team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Proactively assess workload demands, prioritise tasks, and allocate resources effectively. Formulate winning bid strategies in collaboration with the Sales team, aligning with organisational objectives. Manage end-to-end bid preparation process, from customer requirement receipt to contract award. Monitor and manage bid budget and expenditure related to UK bids and proposals. Co-ordinate written and cost inputs from multiple workstreams and external partners. Ensure timely delivery of requirements in accordance with customer deadlines. Lead/ support contract negotiations to achieve sales targets in line with business objectives.
Qualifications and Skills as the Senior Bid Manager:
Degree-level qualification or equivalent, with demonstrated bid management knowledge (e.g., Shipley process, Miller-Heiman or similar). Proven track record in winning business through competitive processes, with strong commercial, project, and risk management skills. Proven interpersonal and written communication skills, capable of leading, collaborating and tactfully challenging within cross-functional teams. Ability to assess complex requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Interpersonal skills to develop close business relationships with internal and external stakeholders, senior management, and government/ military customers. Planning and organising skills, including the proficient use of Microsoft Project. Acute attention to detail, both written and numerical, to deliver accurate and high-quality bids and proposals. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously. Travelling for short periods (potentially at short notice) may be required, both inside/ outside of the UK.

Experience managing bids with inputs and stakeholders from a multi-cultural environment. Defence aerospace industry experience.
