Job Description
We are searching for an experienced Rail Design Engineering Manager to join us here at AECOM to work in our London Southeastern team. We have a strong team atmosphere within the London & Southeast Rail Engineering Management team which you would be embedded into and actively encouraged to promote. The team meets regularly to share best practice and peer learning is encouraged to improve our personal and team performance. Each team member has a development plan to provide a clear pathway to personal development and career progression. The London & Southeast Design Engineering Management team provides the technical leadership on our Rail projects throughout the infrastructure lifecycle from feasibility, preliminary and detailed stage designs. The projects we deliver range from stations to train maintenance and servicing depots and power supply upgrades. Current projects include the DLR Beckton Depot Upgrade and Southern Expansion projects, Bushey Power Supply Upgrade and the Southern Rail Enterprise S&C Renewals programme. There are several large opportunities for you to provide technical leaderships to, such as the West London Orbital, Bakerloo Line Upgrade and Extensions.

Responsibilities
Operating around our core values, you will:

  1. Collaborate- Lead the Design on multi-disciplinary projects ensuring our engineers deliver integrated designs and building effective relationships with our technical teams and Clients. Build relationships with technical teams within the organisation and individuals inside and outside of the organisation to achieve project delivery.
  2. Deliver- Be responsible for interpreting, planning, organising, executing, and coordinating complex, novel and large multi-disciplinary projects and tenders. These projects will range from stations to train maintenance and servicing depots and power supply upgrades. We also provide support for other parts of AECOM’s business on major multidisciplinary projects.
  3. Safeguard- Lead technical management of Safe by Design (Including compliance with CDM and CSM). Be responsible for appointment of competent discipline lead engineers for technical delivery. Plan for engineering tasks concerned with unique problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  4. Anticipate- Working through the complexities of our Transportation projects, you will work with our clients to overcome them.

  6. Thrive- Contribute to the development of the other members of the LSE EM Team, including mentoring, line management and team briefings. Lead the application of AECOM policies and procedures as they apply to technical delivery. Contribute to the development of the Engineering Management profession within AECOM, working with the Regional Engineering Manager to develop processes, procedures and training.
  7. Sustain- Build sustainability into projects to provide holistic solutions to client’s challenges.

Qualifications
We recognise a variety of experience, and backgrounds may suit this role and that experience levels in specific technical areas may vary:

  1. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer CEng / Ieng or working towards this status.
  2. Recognised engineering qualification or preferably a degree in Engineering.
  3. Has performed role of Design Engineering Manager in multiple scenarios.
  4. Strong technical leadership of Design teams in the delivery of projects focused on delivering for the Client.
  5. Knowledge of system design interfaces and experience in technical engineering leadership which impact on discipline design principles and demonstrable experience of the successful management of interfaces within projects.
  6. People management skills.
