Propulsion Service Engineer
Join Wärtsilä as a Propulsion Service Engineer. You will be responsible for executing field service activities such as overhaul, repair, troubleshooting, and warranty work on Wärtsilä propulsion systems.
The reporting location for this position is Glasgow, UK, but extensive travel is required.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Independently execute field service activities such as overhaul, repair and basic troubleshooting on Wärtsilä propulsion systems.
- Perform field service activities according to the work schedule on marine vessels and stationary powerplants.
- Perform engineering/technical support activities according to the work schedule on marine vessels and stationary powerplants.
- Apply mechanical maintenance and overhauling skills for FPP, CPP, gearbox, transverse thruster, azimuth thruster and waterjet components.
- Carry out propulsion product troubleshooting, maintenance and investigation.
- Execute propulsion product warranty and commissioning work and supervise new building projects.
- Perform propulsion control system upgrades.
- Execute warranty, commissioning work and supervise field service.
- Prepare service reports and manage travel expenses on time and with expected Wärtsilä quality.
- Ensure work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures.
Qualifications
- Ability to work on engine/propulsion with field service and marine engineering background.
- Ability to understand, use and correct electrical and automation schematics and drawings, and related component level documentation.
- Possess real‑world knowledge related to control system specification and design, marine power distribution, motor control, process sensors, instrumentation and valve, pump, fan and other process system components.
- Knowledge of machinery/field service work experience.
- More than 3 years’ experience in similar tasks.
- Good command of written and verbal English, diploma/BSc in Mechanical, Marine, Electric & Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with propulsion field service experience.
