Product EngineerHere at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, in Rotherham, we are proud to manufactureOrkot® bearings and wear rings.Orkot®is the world's leading brand in composite bearing material for wear resistant bearings under high load. With over 60 years’ experience in composite bearings, our Rotherham facility provides a full service, from engineering concept to delivery of a bearing solution for specialist markets such as marine, hydro & tidal power.We have a full time, vacancy for a Product Engineer at our Centre of excellence site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Hours of work
The hours of working Monday to Thursday 8.30am until 5pm and Friday 9am until 12pm (38 hours per week) – flexi time is available.
What be you’ll doing
Your role is essential to our organization. As a key member of the Technical and Commercial team at TSS Rotherham, you are responsible for designing Orkot® wear rings, bearings and other products, including interpreting customer requirements, performing design calculations, optimizing manufacturability and cost-effectiveness and creating/approving detailed drawings.
You are also responsible for providing technical support to customers and colleagues (in sales, production, quality etc.), undertaking internal engineering projects, writing technical documents, technical estimating/quotations and supporting sales and marketing activities.
In addition, this role this will involve you in various aspects of product engineering:
Product Design and Realization
- Design new and improved Orkot® wear rings, bearings and other products which meet technical and commercial requirements in an efficient and timely manner.
- Provide valuable input during the design/quotation phases of projects on all aspects of engineering and manufacturability (application, tolerances, etc.)
- Ensure that the design of products and quality of drawings allow them to be manufactured in a cost efficient and time efficient manner.
- Provide engineering and production feasibility input to the screening of sales opportunities and the preparation of business cases.
Technical Support
- Respond promptly and appropriately to Engineering Action Requests (EARs) and Technical Queries (TQs).
- Provide a strong interface between the TSS Customer Service Centres (CSCs) and manufacturing, so that new products are successfully brought to market.
- Support TSS sales engineers and their customers with specialist product knowledge by phone, web meetings, email and face-to-face through travel to UK, Europe and ROW.
- Develop appropriate technical documentation and presentations to support the sales team in developing business.
- Build strong working relationships with external partners such as sales and marketing, suppliers and manufacturers as appropriate to the project.
Sales and Marketing
- Support development of a strategy to support the growth of existing and new products.
- Act as a decision influencer for Orkot® products.
- Support the estimating/quotation of engineered parts and commercial projects.
- Keep abreast of market trends in territories and segments which could affect future product opportunities and developments.
- Work with our Marketing Companies to deliver sales targets; interfacing with customers
What we need from you?
To be successful in this role, you will
- Be educated to degree level standard in Engineering
- Possess a strong design, mechanical or manufacturing engineering background.
- Experienced in utilising project management tools.
- Strong business orientation, with experience in a commercially challenging setting.
- Knowledge and experience in applied mechanics.
- Prior experience of engineering applications within key markets for Orkot® , i.e. marine, industrial, energy (wind, hydro, oil & gas), automotive, aerospace.
- An understanding of conventional machining technologies (e.g. milling, turning, CNC).
