Job Description

Summary


The Product Applications Specialist - Aerospace Coatings & Films will spearhead Dunmore's aerospace applications, specializing in coatings, adhesives, and films, with a strong focus on technical sales engineering and product commercialization. This role bridges technical expertise and customer collaboration, ensuring successful product launches that meet both industry standards and customer requirements, the development of advanced coatings, adhesives, and films for aerospace applications, including thermal protection systems such as multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets, specialty tapes, and other cutting-edge materials. This role is hands-on, with responsibility for taking products from concept to commercialization while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and customers. The individual will be a key player in driving innovation and ensuring the successful launch of new aerospace products.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Identify and Evaluate New Opportunities: Research emerging technologies and materials to identify market gaps, offering innovative solutions for aerospace applications such as thermal management systems, including Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) films.
  • Lead Product Commercialization: Oversee new product development initiatives focused on aerospace coatings, adhesives, and films, ensuring seamless progression from concept to commercialization by aligning technical solutions with market and customer needs.
  • Drive Technical Sales Support: Act as the technical liaison between customers, business development teams, and internal stakeholders, translating application requirements into product specifications to drive revenue growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Optimize Product Performance: Design and develop advanced solutions for demanding aerospace environments, conducting rigorous research and testing to ensure products exceed industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Manage technical development projects efficiently, aligning resources and timelines with organizational objectives for the successful launch of new aerospace products.
  • Scale and Transition Products: Partner with manufacturing and quality assurance teams to scale prototypes and ensure smooth transition to full-scale production, maintaining quality and performance throughout the process.
  • Provide Expert Technical Support: Support sales and customer service teams by troubleshooting technical challenges, optimizing product performance, and ensuring continued success post-commercialization.
  • Monitor Industry Trends: Stay informed about aerospace industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements, analyzing competitive offerings to maintain a strong position in the market and drive future innovation.
  • Mentor and Develop Talent: Mentor junior team members, fostering technical expertise and enhancing the capabilities of the product development and technical sales teams.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support organizational objectives and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:



  • Demonstrated knowledge of MLI (Multi-Layer Insulation) systems for satellites
  • Understanding of space environment effects on materials (radiation, thermal cycling, atomic oxygen)
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry regulations (e.g., FAA, NASA, ASTM, MIL-STD) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with hands-on experience in laboratory testing and product evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience with technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with aerospace OEMs, suppliers, or regulatory bodies.
  • Familiarity with thermal protection systems, EMI shielding, or other specialized aerospace applications.
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry and material processing techniques relevant to aerospace

applications.




Education and Experience




  • Bachelor's degree (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7)+ years of experience in product development of aerospace materials, preferably in thermal protection systems. Additional education will be considered in lieu of experience.

  • Walking/Bending/Stooping: 80/10/10%
  • Lifting Requirements: 25 pounds
  • Travel by air, rail, auto (15% of time)
  • Work in manufacturing area, QA lab and office areas
  • Exposures - Odors, Fumes, Noise, Chemicals, Temperature, Vision strain, Moving parts.
