Senior Principal Electrical Engineer (Low Voltage)

  • Bristol/Hybrid (minimum 3 days a week in the office)
  • Full-time

    Overview:

    We are seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join a leading engineering team within the marine sector. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and optimisation of bespoke Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems and Equipment.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of bespoke electrical power systems to meet demanding customer requirements.
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve complex problems in Power Distribution Systems and Equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and manage small teams when required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across boundaries to align technical outcomes with broader business objectives.
  • Author and review technical documentation, reports, and schedules, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Represent the company's interests in technical engagements with customers, suppliers, and operators.
  • Support the development and integration of innovative DC hybrid propulsion systems for marine applications.

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with extensive experience in electrical design techniques.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical power distribution systems (both AC and DC), their components, and sub-assemblies.
  • Proven ability to work independently in complex and ambiguous technical areas.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.

    Desirable Skills:

  • Working knowledge of marine and electrical standards (e.g., Class Society rules, IEC61439, Def Stans).
  • Experience with software tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Paladin, ETAP, and Mathcad.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards professional registration.

    Additional Information:

  • This role requires eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance and UK nationality. Dual nationals may be subject to additional scrutiny.
