Job Title:Principal Mechanical Engineer – Propulsion Systems


Location:Scotstoun or Portsmouth BroadOak. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.


Salary:£58,500 dependent on skills and experiences



What you’ll be doing:



  • Developing Power & Propulsion system designs for future projects, including developing requirements, acceptance, architecture and safety of the P&P scope of work
  • Engaging with potential suppliers on the current and future products available on the market for use in future platforms
  • Working with outside partners and universities to develop cutting edge technologies for use in future designs
  • Supporting the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids
  • Developing, promoting and sharing new technologies for implementation across businesses and programmes
  • Making engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority


Your skills and experiences:


Essential:



  • Experience working with Propulsion systems and equipment, with ability to carry out complex analysis of requirements leading to selection of technical options
  • Ability to produce technical reports relating to the campaign and technical research work, delivered within agreed requirements for cost, quality, time and schedule
  • Experience and understanding of the Engineering Lifecycle


Desirable:



  • Knowledge of the wider Marine Systems, with experience working on Naval design projects and experience of integrating mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of the control and operation of propulsion systems

The Future Business & Technology (FB&T) team:


The Future Business & Technology (FB&T) team within Naval Ships is responsible for the ship design for the campaigns, both for the UK and export markets. This role will allow you to shape the early system design, looking at the options for propulsion system equipment and layouts. You will have to develop an understanding of the whole propulsion system, and how it contributes to our customer requirements, while developing relationships with key suppliers.


The team is also responsible for technology research projects, using cutting edge technology to support key Naval Ships goals and bring a competitive edge to the designs we produce. We work with outside partners, including other companies and universities, to research technologies which will advance our designs and processes for the future of Naval Ships.
