Join a high-calibre engineering consultancy pushing the boundaries of design and analysis.

Frewer Engineering is seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Engineer to lead on advanced engineering projects across multiple industries, including aerospace, defence, marine, energy and high-tech industry sectors.

This is a pivotal role where you’ll use your technical expertise to drive design innovation, analytical excellence, and project success in a growing business.

It is accepted that you will specialise in a specific technical area, rather than exhaustively fulfil all key responsibilities.

Principal Engineer - Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

  • Lead the creation and evolution of complex 3D CAD designs from concept to detailed design.

  • Review and approve technical drawings and schemes.

  • Provide design recommendations and troubleshoot complex technical challenges.

    Analysis & Governance

  • Champion advanced engineering analysis including:

  • Structural FEA (linear, non-linear, thermal).

  • CFD for fluid/thermal performance in 2D/3D.

  • Perform and oversee hand calculations and model validations.

  • Ensure analytical outputs meet internal governance and industry standards.

    Leadership & Mentoring

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a growing team of engineers.

  • Disseminate work packages and provide technical guidance.

  • Promote innovative approaches to complex engineering problems.

    Project Management

  • Manage multiple concurrent technical projects with shifting priorities.

  • Communicate progress effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.

    Business Development

  • Key contact for major client accounts.

  • Lead the development of proposals including technical input, cost estimates, and project plans.

  • Play an active role in winning new business with both existing and new customers.

    Reporting & Communication

  • Lead author and approver of high-quality technical reports and presentations.

  • Represent the business in meetings with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.

    Continuous Improvement

  • Drive the adoption of cutting-edge tools and methodologies.

  • Support and pursue professional development, with a pathway to fellow status and beyond.

    Principal Engineer - About You

  • A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or similar engineering discipline.

  • Extensive experience in advanced engineering analysis and design.

  • Proven leadership in multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
