In addition to power electronics, you will also work with general electrical systems, making this a well-rounded role for an engineer passionate about lab-based testing and diagnostics.

Working across multiple industries, including Marine and Defence, you will play a crucial role in the validation and troubleshooting of systems such as power converters, motor drives, and electrical systems. This position offers the chance to engage directly with hardware, diagnose complex issues, and provide feedback to improve the performance and reliability of products.

Key Responsibilities

Lab-Based Testing & Validation

  • Lead hands-on testing of power electronics and electrical systems in a lab environment, ensuring systems perform according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Develop and execute test plans, including functional and performance testing for power converters, motor drives, and other related systems.
  • Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power analysers, and signal generators to conduct precise measurements and validate system performance.

Electrical Testing & Fault Finding

  • Perform electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, identifying issues and ensuring that systems are safe and functional under various operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot system faults, diagnose complex technical problems, and implement effective solutions to ensure optimal system performance.

System Integration & Support

  • Support the integration of power electronics into larger systems, testing the compatibility and performance of systems when combined with other components.
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate designs through testing and provide input on potential product improvements based on test outcomes.
  • Set up and maintain test rigs, ensuring the accuracy and safety of all testing operations.

Lab Maintenance & Safety

  • Manage the test lab environment, ensuring that all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and ready for testing activities.
  • Ensure all testing procedures follow relevant health and safety protocols, particularly when dealing with high-voltage equipment.
  • Set up and maintain test rigs, ensuring the accuracy and safety of all testing operations.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed test reports, documenting testing procedures, outcomes, and any identified issues or inconsistencies.
  • Write technical documentation that outlines test results, troubleshooting steps, and suggestions for system improvement.
  • Communicate findings to both internal teams and customers, providing clear recommendations for system adjustments and future enhancements.

Customer Support

  • Provide technical support during customer-facing activities, including field testing and installation, ensuring that systems perform to customer expectations.
  • Assist in customer troubleshooting, offering hands-on solutions and advice to resolve technical issues in deployed systems.

Experience and Skills;

  • Proven experience in power electronics testing, fault finding, and lab-based testing of power converters, motor drives, or other complex electronic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with lab-based equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, and power analysers.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, including diagnostics and fault resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics, electrical systems, and converter topologies
  • Expertise in electrical testing, including the ability to interpret test data, troubleshoot issues, and suggest corrective actions.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans, with the ability to analyse data and draw actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in fault-finding and problem-solving, particularly in a lab environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to produce detailed technical reports and collaborate with engineering teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous
  • Experience in the Naval / Maritime domain would be advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience in the integration of power electronics into larger systems, testing systems under real-world conditions.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols in lab environments, particularly when working with high-voltage and high-power equipment.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools to validate designs before physical testing.

Even If you feel like you don't meet every qualification, we encourage you to reach out an apply.

Working:The role is office/hybrid based with occasional travel to other company/customer's sites in the UK or abroad.

Important:Due to the level of security clearance required, all applicants must be eligible to obtain UKEYES ONLY clearance, and therefore be a Sole UK National.
