An opportunity has arisen for an experienced MEICA Project Engineer with a strong electrical bias to join a well-established Tier One civil engineering contractor delivering major utilities infrastructure projects in the South East. This position offers long-term security, technically challenging work and the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of complex MEICA systems across regulated utilities frameworks.

The role will involve providing technical leadership and hands-on engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle, from design and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning and final handover. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider project team, the successful candidate will ensure all MEICA elements are delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with project specifications, standards and programme requirements. A strong commitment to safety is essential, with a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe working practices.

Projects typically range in value from £200k to £10m+ and include a mix of framework, standalone and reactive works, offering genuine variety, long-term stability and clear career progression.

The MEICA Project Engineer will support the Project Management team in the delivery of electrical and ICA works on major infrastructure schemes, providing detailed technical input throughout the design, construction and commissioning phases. Responsibilities will include producing and reviewing MEICA technical specifications, functional design specifications and scope documents, as well as reviewing and assuring technical drawings such as Single Line Diagrams, MCC schematics, system and network architecture drawings and SCADA and telemetry functional documentation.

The role will also involve managing suppliers, subcontractors and engineering consultants across multiple technical disciplines, coordinating MEICA interfaces with civil, mechanical and process teams, and supporting the procurement of specialist MEICA equipment and subcontract packages. The successful candidate will provide technical input to commercial teams in relation to variations and site instructions, carry out Technical Assurance checks, audits and quality inspections, and lead or support FAT, SAT, commissioning activities and system handover.

Liaison with DNOs regarding power resilience, HV and LV systems, transformers and associated infrastructure will be required, along with participation in HAZOP, ALM and other safety-critical reviews. The role includes attending site inspections and progress meetings, identifying and mitigating project risks, mentoring and guiding project team members, and ensuring all works comply with relevant legislation, industry standards and best practice, including WIMES where applicable. Preparation of technical reports, progress updates and comprehensive handover documentation will also form a key part of the role.

Applicants should be degree qualified or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, ICA, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with proven experience in a MEICA Project Engineer or Electrical Engineer role within the utilities sector. A strong technical background is required, including practical experience of pumps, valves and hydraulic systems, HV and LV systems, transformers, RMUs, LV switchgear, PLCs, MCCs, RTUs, instrumentation and control systems, and SCADA or telemetry integration. Experience delivering design and build infrastructure projects for regulated water companies is essential, along with a solid understanding of NEC contracts and experience supervising both direct labour and subcontracted MEICA works.

Candidates must demonstrate strong organisational and leadership skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and confidence in liaising with stakeholders at all levels. A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a clear commitment to promoting a positive safety culture are essential.

Essential certifications include SMSTS or NEBOSH, a relevant CSCS card, First Aid and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. Desirable experience includes familiarity with WIMES standards, water and wastewater project experience, Authorised Person Electrical status, Thames Water Safety Passport, EUSR Water Hygiene card, strong programme and schedule management capability and commercial or contract awareness relating to NEC, MF1 or IChemE forms.
