Rate: £46.90 per hour umbrella
Job Role:
To provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Power & Propulsion systems team engaged in the functional design of Propulsion Systems on the River Class Destroyer Program for the Royal Canadian Navy.
This includes design of mechanical system schematics, engineering change requests, and other design definition documents and calculations.
Key areas of activity:
- Contribute to mechanical elements of the design of the River Class Destroyer Power and Propulsion systems, including:
- Propulsion Motors
- Diesel Generators
- Gas Turbine
- Propulsion Gearbox
- Shaftline
- Steering gear and Stabilisers
Provide support to the team in order to assess technical compliance, integration, and review of design documentation for the ship's propulsion motors procurement pack.
Implement change to P&P systems away from baseline ship design, assessing impacts on equipment, systems, and spatial design.
Support P&P compartment owners in the Zonal Maturity programme.
Author basic technical reports to support design maturity and articulate system design compliance to the customer.
Delivering solutions that meet system requirements, including performing analyses of engineering issues and recommending solutions.
Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Requirements:
- Batchelor's degree with honours or Master's degree (or other qualification plus appropriate further learning to honours degree level) in engineering, technology, or science
- Early Career Associate / Associate/ Member membership of an appropriate Professional Engineering Institute, ideally IMarEST, IMechE, IET, or CIBSE
- Professional registration level: Working towards IEng
- Experience and expertise in Marine Engineering Systems
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering
- Awareness of external market and similar industry advancements and developments
- Understands how marine engineering integrates into other technologies and products
