Lead Design Engineer - Heritage Aviation Specialist

About Our Client

Our client is a prestigious specialist engineering company with a unique focus on maintaining and restoring heritage aircraft. Due to significant growth and increased demand, they're seeking a Lead Design Engineer to join their CAA Approved Design Organisation based in Gloucestershire.

Working with this industry leader offers a rare opportunity to apply modern engineering expertise to historically significant aerospace projects. Their team is responsible for ensuring the continued flight capability of some of the UK's most important historical aircraft.

The Role

As Lead Design Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in their expanding design team, working on fascinating multidisciplinary legacy aerospace projects involving aero-structures, engines, and systems from classic aviation eras.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading engineering projects within a CAA Approved Design Organisation

  • Developing complete approved design solutions for heritage aircraft

  • Conducting compliance verification of design artifacts

  • Creating CAD models and detailed technical drawings

  • Liaising with customers, sub-contractors and internal teams

  • Providing mentorship and technical guidance to project team members

    The Ideal Candidate

    We're seeking a highly motivated design professional with:

  • Degree qualification in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Significant experience as a Design Engineer with project leadership capability

  • Strong technical knowledge and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Team-oriented approach with mentoring capabilities

  • Working knowledge of relevant software tools and computer literacy

    Additional Advantageous Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Civil and Military Aviation regulations

  • Strong understanding of business management principles
