We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-driven Laboratory Technician (Engineering Materials) to join a world-class electrification programme at a leading automotive manufacturer in Coventry. You'll work in a high-tech lab, helping to test and take apart battery cells used in electric vehicles. If you're practical, precise, and ready to get started right away – this could be a great fit.

    The opportunity:
    Based at a prestigious automotive manufacturer, as a Laboratory Technician, you’ll work with a specialist team of scientists, engineers, and chemists to support the teardown and analysis of battery cells and other propulsion components. You'll follow written procedures to the letter, helping ensure critical data is collected with precision for engineering decisions that shape the future of electric vehicles.
    Whether you’re preparing physical or chemical samples, handling lab equipment, or contributing to risk assessments, your work will directly support the development of advanced EV technology.
    Key responsibilities include:
  • Carrying out safe and accurate teardowns of battery cells
  • Measuring and preparing chemical and physical samples to procedure
  • Operating lab equipment and instruments
  • Recording and transferring test data using digital systems
  • Supporting safe lab practices through COSHH, SDS, and Risk Assessments
  • Maintaining high lab standards through regular checks and 5S activities
  • Collaborating with engineers, chemists, and prototype teams
    What we’re looking for:
  • Apprenticeship or NVQ3 in a science/engineering subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience with hand tools and basic mechanical or semi-automated equipment
  • Understanding of chemistry fundamentals (GCSE level or higher)
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to sample handling
  • Confidence using digital tools such as Excel or PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with COSHH, SDS, and lab safety protocols
